The Messerschmitt Me108 Taifun is a German single-engine military, sport and touring aircraft designed in the early / mid 1930s. It later would evolve into the Me109, the main Luftwaffe fighter of WW2.
Soon after the first production aircraft began to roll off the assembly line in Augsburg, several Me108s had set endurance records. The Me108 was adopted into Luftwaffe service during World War II, where it was primarily used as a personnel transport and liaison aircraft.
Due to the design similarity the Me108 has played the role of Me109 fighters in many classic war movies including The Longest Day, The Great Escape, 633 Squadron, Mosquito Squadron, and Von Ryan’s Express.
