The Cessna 182 Skylane is an American four-seat, single-engined light aircraft float plane. Introduced in 1956, and in constant production since, the 182 has been produced in a number of variants, including a version with retractable landing gear, and this float plane version.
We’ve taken this one on a few jobs now. The first was the charming kids film “Swallows and Amazons”. As the Russian Bad Guys aircraft it got a coat of washable black paint. We couldn’t shoot the Lake District as they wouldn’t budge on their 5mph water speed limit which was about 60mph short of what we needed! So off we went to Scotland. A successful few days shoot although I do recall the midges being a PIA and spending most of the time in a plastic bag.
We have a gimbal cabin set that matches this aircraft and I think that was shot against green screen in a car park in Leeds. Oh the glamour of it all.
It’s second outing was for the Feature Film “Infiltrator” which I recall involved some complex river navigation. Finally the Welsh Tourist Board where it got a more conformist coat of red washable paint.
